Trevone Boykin Injury Update: TCU Star’s Wrist and Return
Trevone Boykin, TCU’s starting quarterback, will reportedly miss the rest of spring practice after undergoing wrist surgery.
Kevin Flaherty of 247 Sports delivered dismal news for the Horned Frogs:
Trevone Boykin will play most of spring football before missing the final three practices for surgery to repair a fractured bone in his left wrist, according to TCU coach Gary Patterson.
Boykin had the injury late in the 2014 season, but he played through it with a light cast. The treatment is scheduled for the first week of April, so Boykin, with a five-week recovery timetable, should be ready for summer sessions.
Boykin improved significantly during his junior season, putting himself in contention for the Heisman Trophy. His lack of blunders leading the passing attack, after throwing 17 interceptions in his first two seasons, and contributions on the ground aided the team’s early success.
The Horned Frogs must be relieved that Boykin is not anticipated to miss any time during the regular season, but losing him for part of the team’s spring practices must be difficult for Patterson. In Boykin’s absence, backup quarterback Matt Joeckel will likely take over.
