£5m goalkeeper “highly fancied” by Leeds United, had howler this week for current club – Phil Hay

The Whites are pressing on with preparations for the start of the new Championship season, with Daniel Farke aiming to get the side straight back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

To do so, he’s going to need significant investment on top of the £7million Ethan Ampadu signing, expected to be announced shortl

Karl Darlow to Leeds?

Plenty of reports have linked Leeds with a goalkeeper swoop this summer, and likely to be top of that list is 32-year-old Newcastle stopper Karl Darlow – per the YEP.

Darlow spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City, where he impressed in the EFL and is likely to earn a move off the back of it, expected to be in the region of £5million to whoever agrees a deal.

Now, Phil Hay has revealed that the Magpies man is “highly fancied” for a move to Elland Road, emerging high up on the list of options for Leeds to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

Darlow shocker v Rangers

Despite being very low down the pecking order under Eddie Howe, Darlow started last night for the Magpies in a friendly against Rangers last night at Ibrox.

Newcastle came out 2-1 winners thanks to a late winner from right-back Harrison Ashby, but it came after an equaliser from Sam Lammers, following lax play from Darlow and Bruno Guimaraes, where the former played a hospital pass into the Brazilian, who was too casual in possession and pick-pocketed by the Rangers man:

It’s one thing trusting your midfielders to receive the ball facing their own goal under pressure, it’s another thing playing that sort of pass.

As much as it’s only one example, that must be something that would concern Farke when thinking about buying a new ‘keeper.

If he’s doing that to elite midfielders like Guimaraes, it wouldn’t bode well for players of a lesser calibre.
