Leeds now rival West Ham for England star Taylor Harwood-Bellis as Man City set price they’re willing to sell

Leeds United are now rivalling West Ham for England star Taylor Harwood-Bellis as Man City set the price they’re willing to sell at.

Earlier this week The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claimed West Ham are seriously interested in signing Manchester City centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis in the summer transfer window.

Now Leeds United are said to have joined the race for the Man City and England defender too.

Harwood-Bellis captained England’s Under 21s to Euro glory this summer. And that clearly caught the attention of Hammers boss David Moyes.

It says a lot about West Ham’s window woes thus far that Leeds, despite being relegated to the Championship, feel they have a chance of competing with the Hammers for Harwood-Bellis.

The 21-year-old was a key player for Vincent Kompany as Burnley won promotion back to the Premier League last season.

Now West Ham are said to be battling Leeds United, Fulham and even newly-promoted Luton for the centre-back.

That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon account.

“City are adamant about the (£15m) valuation even though Harwood-Bellis is running out of contract and that is slowing down progress dramatically,” Nixon said.

“And City know that Harwood-Bellis could move to a Premier rival at the end of his contract, so they would show how highly they rate him by standing by this valuation.”

West Ham cannot afford to lose out to Championship Leeds for talented leader if they’re seriously interested

Surely this is a race West Ham will win if they are serious about the defender?

Harwood-Bellis is the profile of player the Hammers should be looking to sign.

If Moyes – or in West Ham’s case perhaps Tim Steidten – is serious about signing him then, with respect, Leeds should not stand a chance.

Kurt Zouma is a constant injury worry with his knee issues, Angelo Ogbonna is most likely in the last season of his career and Nayef Aguerd has been far from convincing.

Leeds may be able to offer Harwood-Bellis the chance to be a guaranteed starter. But West Ham have Europa League football so there will be plenty of opportunity for the young Man City starlet if he does move to the London Stadium.
