Leeds United move for Taylor Harwood-Bellis makes too much sense to ignore as transfer news drops

Leeds United have been credited with an interest in a £15million move for Manchester City and England defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis this summer, according to Leeds Live.

The Whites are one of a number of clubs, including Premier League sides, looking to bring the City Academy graduate to the club, and he could be allowed to leave should his asking price be met.

This move makes plenty of sense for Leeds, given the defender’s high

regard in the game following his success on loan at Burnley, followed by captaining England to an under-21s European Championship victory where the team didn’t concede a single goal.

It is from this England squad that current Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell worked closely alongside Harwood-Bellis as part of that defensive unit, and he commented on the personality and traits of the Manchester City player, which seemingly makes him a perfect fit at Leeds.

When Cresswell spoke to England’s media team ahead of the beginning of the tournament, he stated: “Taylor [Harwood-Bellis] is the joker of the group. He brings the energy every day and he’s great to have around. Such a loud voice and a great player as well.”

Cresswell’s comments are a display of exactly why Harwood-Bellis would be a success at Leeds. A great character to have in the dressing room, a positive influence and energy to have around this club, and a loud voice both on and off the pitch.

The central defender has shown great leadership at such a young age, which was why he was entrusted with the armband for England’s U21s tournament win, playing a crucial role in commanding that side while showing plenty of ability alongside the leadership.

Leeds have lost a number of senior players in this transfer window following their relegation from the Premier League, so to bring in a player who, despite his age, is a proven leader, would be a very good piece of business.

They also know he can do it in the Championship, as he helped Burnley to achieve promotion at the first time of asking while playing expansive football out from the back as Leeds would look to do under Farke.

Having a pre-existing relationship with Cresswell would make it easy for him to settle in at the club, meaning there would be no drawn-out adapting process.

In other Leeds United news, one new signing has tipped the club to have a ‘special season’ this year.
