Leeds United get transfer boost in chase for Hirving Lozano as he prefers to stay in Europe

Leeds United seem to have been handed a second chance to land surprise target Napoli winger Hirving Lozano as the player would prefer to stay in Europe, according to AS.

The Spanish news publication reported on 31 July that the previous report of Lozano having agreed a deal with MLS side LAFC [W Deportes, 27 July] was simply a rumour and that the player has ideas of remaining in Europe.

It is shared that Lozano’s future is in his own hands, with an offer currently on the table from LA Galaxy, although he will wait for a formal offer from a European club before deciding his future – leaving the door open for Leeds to swoop.

Lozano would be an incredible addition to Daniel Farke’s squad at Elland Road, following the winger’s role in Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season, making 32 appearances in the league for the Italian side.

The report which linked Leeds with a move for Lozano also suggested Premier League sides Newcastle and Everton with moves for Lozano, in a display of the high regard in which the Mexican is held.

To bring a major title winner to the Championship would be a huge boost to a Leeds squad that seems to be constantly losing their star players. Particularly if Willy Gnonto is to leave as has been heavily rumoured, Lozano would be a more than adequate replacement.

Leeds are currently well-stocked out wide, but Gnonto, Crycensio Summerville and Jack Harrison have all been linked with moves away from Elland Road this season.

The Mexican international, who has played in two World Cups, was once a much-coveted asset, with interest from Manchester United reported as recently as 2022 [The Sun], is still only 27 and able to provide multiple years of high-level service to whichever club he joins.
