‘Encouraging him’: Dan Bentley names the Wolves star leaders are forcing to improve his English

Dan Bentley has been speaking about the new leadership group that has formed at Wolves.

It has been all change at Molineux in recent times.

Since last year, a number of leaders and experienced players have left the club.

Last summer, Willy Boly, Romain Saiss, John Ruddy, Fernando Marcal, Leander Dendoncker and Conor Coady (loan) all left.

So far this summer, Coady (permanent) Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez have gone.

Naturally, a new leadership group has formed.

It now consists of Bentley, Max Kilman, Craig Dawson, Nelson Semedo, Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina.

And Bentley has shared what they have been trying to do since becoming members – and he made an interesting claim about one Molineux star.

Bentley has quickly established himself as a real leader at Compton Park.

He was the club captain at Bristol City so that is perhaps not too much of a surprise.

He has now revealed what things are like behind the scenes with this new group of players.

He told the Express & Star: “It was quite natural that the leadership group formed for the players that are in it. No-one really asked to be in it, it was the powers that be in the club that decided who was in it, and we are a bridge between the staff and the dressing room.”

And Bentley has revealed that there has been a conscious effort to avoid the formation of cliques.

And he suggests there is a real emphasis on everyone speaking English.

He added: “For example, Joao Gomes. We’ve been encouraging him to sit with the English boys and be forced to speak English. It’s the quickest way he’s going to learn.

“The lads Cunha, Nunes and Nelson – and the rest of the Portuguese speaking boys – can translate when needed if there’s a conversation about tactics or things he doesn’t understand. But we wanted to force him to speak English to help him learn.

“It’s almost about that uncomfortable feeling of ‘oh I don’t know what’s being said’, but the more you do that, the better.”

Wolves dressing seems to be in a very healthy place

Despite many experienced players leaving the club over the past year, the Wolves dressing room does appear to be in a very good place at the moment.

The comments made by Bentley are very encouraging indeed.

It’s good to see that they are getting Gomes to sit with the English players to help him with his communication.

The midfielder is an amazing prospect, and his life will be made much easier once he gets a solid grasp of the language.

It’s good to see Bentley and the others looking out for him. And it’s also good to see that the squad is tight-knit now, compared to how broken it apparently was this time last year under Bruno Lage.
