Pundit and former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy is “disappointed for” James Maddison after he joined Spurs from Leicester City for £40million.

Maddison also had interest from Newcastle in the transfer market, but opted for Tottenham and is now plying his trade in north London under Ange Postecoglou. But for ex-Tottenham man Murphy, that was the wrong decision.

“He sees everything, he always moves into the right place,” Murphy told talkSPORT. “He knows where people are. I’m actually disappointed for him in some ways because I think he’s a Champions League player.”

When it was suggested that Maddison could be playing in the Champions League for Tottenham come 2024-25, Murphy added: “He might, but it’s a risk. He’s not now. I thought he would get a club that’s in the Champions League.”
