Tottenham could now bid for £50m-rated Nottingham Forest star – journalist

Top journalist Mike McGrath believes that Tottenham are now very tempted to bid for Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson. The forward has been linked with a move away from the City Ground all summer and the Reds have a fight on their hands.

The journalist was talking as a guest on The Last Word on Spurs podcast. He believes that Ange Postecoglou is very keen to take a chance on the Forest man and a bid is being prepared by the Premier League club.

Johnson has enjoyed a brilliant couple of seasons. He scored 19 goals in all competitions as Forest won promotion during 2021/22, before firing 11 goals in all competitions as the Reds survived relegation last season.

Forest are protected over Johnson. He has bags of time left on his existing deal and the club are comfortable with the £50 million valuation that has been placed on his head.

McGrath thinks Tottenham will be undeterred, however. He believes that they’re seriously considering making a proposal to Forest in the coming weeks.

He told The Last Word on Spurs: “But Brennan Johnson certainly, from my information, there is genuine interest there. That is somebody that Spurs are looking at.

“He’s a very exciting talent that Forest would possibly be up for selling at the right price. So it would be an expensive one. But certainly, that is one that I’ve heard they’ve been looking at.”

Johnson came in for praise from his manager last season. After he scored the winning goal against Leeds he called him ‘fantastic’ after his performance.

McGrath believes Tottenham will bid for Forest star Johnson

The Reds are in a nice position here. Johnson is tied to Forest for the next few years and they have every right to demand exactly what they feel the 22-year-old is worth.

Johnson could star for Forest once again during 2023/24. He scored eight Premier League goals last season and he would love to break into double figures this time around.

If he does that in the Garibaldi, Forest might be well within their rights to value him even higher!

Spurs will have a significant pull, however. Although they don’t have European football to entice new additions, they will have a new manager with an attractive brand of football on offer.

Johnson is Forest through and through. As a result, that might just persuade him to stay on Trentside for a little while longer and help the Reds avoid second-season syndrome.
