Leicester City injury latest as Enzo Maresca hopes to welcome back summer signing for Cardiff

The Danish goalkeeper has missed Leicester City’s last two matches with a quad injury, but could return this weekend as the club go in search of a fourth straight win against Cardiff

The summer signing only played one competitive match before suffering a quad problem in training. That kept him out of City’s last two games, with Jakub Stolarczyk stepping up, the Pole keeping clean sheets in his first ever senior outings for the club.

But manager Enzo Maresca said last week that he expected Hermansen to be available to take on Cardiff, with City looking to record a fourth straight win to start off the season, something they have never done before.

“Mads is good, but not enough to play tomorrow,” Maresca said at his press conference last Friday. “It’s just very small, probably he will be fit for the next game.”

That leaves just two players on the sidelines. Conor Coady now has a schedule for his recovery from a foot injury, with the centre-back due back at the end of September. Goalkeeper Alex Smithies is also out injured.

Victor Kristiansen, having been injured for the first two games of the campaign, was fit to face Huddersfield last weekend, but was one of six fit players to be left out of the squad, along with Timothy Castagne, Harry Souttar, Boubakary Soumare, Patson Daka, and Kasey McAteer. Bar McAteer, none of the players have played a single minute in the three competitive games so far.

Before City take on Cardiff, they will also hope to have strengthened their squad further in the transfer market. Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei is set to arrive on loan.
