‘HE’S TOO GOOD FOR WEST HAM’: CALLUM WILSON URGES £700K-A-WEEK STAR TO SNUB HAMMERS TRANSFER

Callum Wilson has claimed that Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is ‘too good’ for West Ham United amid transfer rumours.

The Newcastle United striker defended his fellow countryman and how he has been treated during his time at Manchester United.

Whether it be his own fans or the opposition, Harry Maguire has taken a lot of verbal beatings, but Callum Wilson was sure to mention how he has made it up the ranks over the years, as he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

Maguire was stripped of the captain’s armband this summer, which was a hint to the player that he had no future at Old Trafford.

As a result, the likes of West Ham, who sold Declan Rice this summer for a club-record fee, came knocking for his talents.

But Wilson has claimed that his fellow international, with ‘no disrespect’ to the Hammers, is of a higher level than the London club.

“I have played against Harry through the leagues when he was at Sheffield United and I was at Coventry,” said Wilson. “We played against each other in League One. We worked our way alongside each other.

“I feel, personally, no disrespect to West Ham. He is too good for them. At the minute, he is having a bit of a sticky time with his confidence.

“Let’s not forget, this guy turns up game after game for England. Every tournament. He has just been stripped of the captaincy, but he is a leader at one of the best clubs in the world. If I was him, I would stay and fight.”

Maguire suits Moyes’ style

The key thing here is that Maguire, if he were to link-up with Moyes at the London Stadium, then the £200k-a-week star (Spotrac) would suit his style of play.

West Ham like to play a low block and hit on the counter-attack, which would suit Maguire’s style because the backline is protected a lot more.

It’s not too dissimilar to England, and as fans have seen over the years, as much as he struggles at Old Trafford, he always turns up for his country.
