Leicester City now want to beat Leeds to signing of ‘brilliant’ PL player – journalist

Leicester City and Southampton have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

That is according to Daily Telegraph journalist John Percy, who reports a host of Championship clubs are keen on a loan deal for the defender who Pep Guardiola regards as a ‘brilliant’ talent.

Percy has named the relegated trio as the three front runners in the race for Harwood-Bellis, who has just 12 months remaining on his deal at City.

He spent last term at former City defender Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, where he made 32 appearances as the Clarets romped to the Championship title

Leeds, Leicester, Southampton all want City’s Harwood-Bellis

Despite having signed Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur last week, it appears as though Leeds are still in the market for a new centre-back.

Liam Cooper picked up an injury on the opening day of the season against Cardiff City, that is expected to see keep him out for two months.

He has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and his absence still leaves Leeds looking short on numbers in the centre of defence.

Harwood-Bellis would represent a significant coup for any Championship side looking to shore up their backline, and it is imperative Leeds are not beaten by either Leicester or Southampton to his signature.

As per Alan Nixon, City are set to demand £15m for a permanent sale for the 21-year-old, though as the window ticks on, it will be interesting to see if that stance changes.
