Gold says Tottenham have ‘distanced themselves’ from talks of signing Chelsea outcast

Tottenham facing struggles in their pursuit of dynamic Bundesliga defensive star

Italian outlet Gazzetta.it linked Tottenham Hotspur with a shock transfer for Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku recently.

The Chelsea striker is finding it hard in SW6 after his high-profile transfer from Inter Milan in 2021. The Belgium international is also wanted by Juventus, but they are yet to match Chelsea’s €50million asking price.

We have sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this month and have cash to spend. Dusan Vlahovic has also emerged as an option and so has Lukaku.

But Football.London’s Alasdair Gold doesn’t believe this move would be on the cards. In a Q&A session, Gold was asked about the Lukaku rumours. His answer was clear:

No Lukaku?

“Spurs have distanced themselves from all talk of Romelu Lukaku joining them. Let’s be honest, he doesn’t particularly seem to fit the Postecoglou system anyway.”

Chelsea have placed a massive price tag on a player that hasn’t done well in England in recent years and is limited in his ability as a centre-forward. We have been used to seeing a playmaker-cum-striker in Kane.

Lukaku can’t provide that. He isn’t the most agile and isn’t very good in the final third when it comes to playmaking skills. For a team to get the best out of him, they will have to formulate a system around his strengths.

Moreover, from Lukaku’s career, it has become evident that he doesn’t anywhere for too long. He finds it hard to settle down at one particular club and in a particular system. At 30, he would only be a short-term solution for us up front.

Gift Orban, 21, is a striker Spurs are chasing. It is smart from the club to go down the route of signing a rather unknown striker and building him into a world-class player rather than signing a struggling 30-year-old who plays for a direct rival.

Lloris has been a great servant for the club but his time here is coming to an end. We will bid him adieu with the heaviest of hearts but take it on the chin and move on to the future.
