REPORT REVEALS :  Leeds United closing in on £5m player who scored against Farke last season

SKY REPORTER CLAIMS LEEDS UNITED CLOSING IN ON £5M PLAYER AFTER ALL

Leeds United have been given new hope of signing Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Nadiem Amiri despite interest from Marseille.

Nadiem Amiri is ‘very open’ to joining Leeds United with the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder performing something of a U-turn

That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claim that Amiri had rejected a move to Leeds earlier today.

The 26-year-old had his heart set on a move to Marseille and was prepared to snub Leeds to make the move happen.

Leeds were informed of Amiri’s decision but it’s now claimed that Marseille and Leverkusen have been unable to find an agreement on a deal.

Conversely, Leverkusen and Leeds are very close to an agreement on a deal worth up to €6million (£5million) plus add-ons.

Plettenberg claims that Amiri is in fact open to joining Leeds now with boss Daniel Farke really pushing to bring him in.

Amiri seemingly just preferred Marseille but with that option stalling, the playmaker could end up at Leeds after all.

Nadiem Amiri scored against Leeds United boss Daniel Farke last season

Amiri wasn’t exactly a key player for Leverkusen last season, starting just nine Bundesliga games.

The former Hoffenheim ace was still able to make a big impact in certain games, including against Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this year.

Amiri hit was proved to be the winning goal in a 3-2 victory away at Gladbach, driving home a superb low strike to put Leverkusen 3-0 up.

Who was in the Gladbach dugout that night? Current Leeds boss Daniel Farke.

The German may well remember Amiri’s impact in that game and fancies bringing him to Elland Road as a result.

Farke will of course be basing this potential signing on more than just one game but that match-winning display will live in his memory.

Leeds must now hope that Marseille don’t return with a new move for Amiri, with the playmaker finally ready to make a move to West Yorkshir Star admits he is ‘happy’ about claims Liverpool have made a £25m bid for him
