The Tigers have pulled off quite a coup to sign the Villa youngster

Liam Rosenior says he’s excited by the imminent arrival of Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa as the Tigers look to wrap up a deal believed to be worth in the region of £5m for the highly-rated winger.

Philogene was at the MKM Stadium on Friday night ahead of City’s battling 1-1 draw with Bristol City and it’s expected his move from Villa Park will be wrapped up over the weekend, having already agreed personal terms and passed a medical earlier this week.

He could yet be joined by Villa teammate Keinan Davis, who faces a big decision about where his future lies, but on the subject of Philogene, Rosenior says the 21-year-old is a player with significant potential and one the club have worked tirelessly on over a period of months.

“Again, thank you to Acun (Ilicali) and thank you to Tan (Kesler) because I think it shows the ambition of the club and what we’re trying to achieve this year.”

Philogene will provide City with welcome options on the flanks, an area Rosenior has been keen to strengthen over the summer months, and he says his arrival will be a big boost.

“He’s 21 years old so I don’t want to put too much pressure on him, but his potential is limitless in terms of his one-v-one ability,” he said.

“I like playing with wingers, I like having width in my team and he completely fits the way we want to play. He’s a great character which is really important to me, and hopefully we can get that one pushed across the line because I think it will be a real lift for everyone.”
