Another great transfer: as middlesbrough sealed a deal in the last 1 hour

Middlesbrough increases its offensive options with the loan of Sam Greenwood from Leeds United.
The eleventh signing for Middlesbrough during the summer transfer window has been completed.

Sam Greenwood, a dynamic attacker from Leeds United, has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, becoming the club’s 11th acquisition of the summer transfer window.

Capable of playing both as a striker and a midfielder, it currently appears like Boro recruited him with the intention of having him compete for the spot behind the primary striker, a position that was solidified by the great Chuba Akpom last season. Since Emmanuel Latte Lath’s arrival, Morgan Rogers has filled the position, and Matt Crooks scored from that spot on Tuesday in the cup victory at Bolton Wanderers.

.But Michael Carrick has frequently discussed the advantages of having such versatility in the lineup, especially in the attacking positions. The 21-year-old will undoubtedly provide that and has declined multiple offers to transfer to the Riverside from other Championship clubs.

Sam is a tremendously talented player, according to Carrick. Because he can move on two feet, he gives us more flexibility. He and Lewis O’Brien will be working with us, and we look forward to seeing how they progress as players.

The 21-year-old was born in Sunderland and was part of their academy up to the age of 16. After the Wearsiders were relegated to League One in 2018, Arsenal took advantage of Elite Player Performance Plan rules which mean clubs cannot contract players until the age of 17 and lured him to North London.

The England youth international failed to make a senior appearance in two years with the Gunners, however, and moved further north to be closer to his family three years ago. It was under Jesse Marsch that Greenwood would enjoy the majority of his Leeds appearances, with the USA head coach experimenting with the forward as a midfielder and praising his versatility and intelligence.
