Sources: Wolves star Pond agrees Stockport County deal

Wolves defender Alfie Pond has agreed to join Stockport County, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old is believed to have already signed a season-long loan contract with the League Two strugglers.

Pond’s current contract at Molineux runs until 2027 after he signed from Exeter City last summer.

The teenager has spent the majority of his junior and senior career with Exeter before he linked up with Wolves’ youth setup in 2022 and made three senior appearance for Exeter during his time at the club.

Pond had been on Wolves’ radar for a while and quickly established himself in the Under-21s led by boss James Collins.

Pond made his senior debut for Wolves in Tuesday night’s 5-0 EFL Cup win over Blackpool.

The centre-back started on the bench and came on for the final nine minutes of the match.

Speaking to club media in December, Pond said he initially struggled following his arrival at the Premier League club and found it hard to adapt to different styles of play that he was not used to.

Pond also had the opportunity to travel with the club on their winter training camp in Marbella where he had the chance to prove himself in front of former boss Julen Lopetegui.

Stockport are keen to add Pond to their ranks for the current campaign after a difficult start that has seen the League Two side pick up just four points from five games.
