Galatasaray finalised the permanent transfer of Davinson Sánchez from Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.

The center-back, who still had one year left on his contract with Spurs, was frequently mentioned in transfer rumours this summer.

The 27-year-old’s contract was negotiated for two months, according to Erden Timur, vice president of Galatasaray. As reported by NTV Spor, he made this disclosure yesterday during a press conference.

Although the transfer window in Turkey expires on September 15th, the Istanbul club hurried to complete the defender’s deal on September 4th, which was also the deadline for submitting their Champions League group stage roster.

According to Timur, the Turkish champions were afraid they wouldn’t be able to close the purchase.

“Up until the past two days, us and Tottenham had a significant difference. Whoever’s wrist breaks last in this industry gets the deal. Tottenham’s third centre back was Davinson, he claimed.
“Because of the significant difference, we reasoned that they would not be included in our totals. We raised the cost by €1.5 million and came to an agreement. It took roughly two months to complete. They started with €25 million and worked their way down to these sums.

The Galatasaray executive was quoted by Hürriyet as saying the Super Lig club knew Tottenham would eventually cave and approve the South American’s sale.

Timur argued that having Tottenham was advantageous because they frequently raise prices before lowering them.
