What a black day for bristol rovers : ‘deeply saddened’ over death of their talented player

‘Deeply grieved’ by the passing of a former academy player, Takayo Nembhard, who attended the Bristol Rovers academy from the age of seven to sixteen.

After Takayo Nembhard, a former young player, was fatally stabbed during the Notting Hill Carnival yesterday (29 August), Bristol Rovers released a statement.

According to Mr Nembhard’s manager Chris Patrick, who also goes by the rap name TKorStretch, the 21-year-old Bristol resident was the target of the murderous attack this morning while he was enjoying the funfair with his sister and friends.

The young man’s musical talent was best known. On Spotify, one of his tracks received more than 300,000 plays, and there were almost 11,000 monthly listeners. But he was also a gifted football player, having attended Bristol Rovers’ academy from the age of seven to the age of sixteen.

After being rejected for a scholarship at the club only five years ago, he was discharged.

The club released a statement regarding his passing today. Bristol Rovers expressed their “deep sorrow” at learning of the passing of former academy player Takayo Nembhard in the statement.

The club would want to express its sympathies to Takayo’s friends and family at this trying period.

After Mr. Nembhard’s death, the Metropolitan Police opened a murder inquiry. At around 8 o’clock on Monday night, police were alerted to allegations of a stabbing in Ladbroke Grove beneath the Westway flyover.

Mr. Nembhard received first aid care before being transferred to the hospital, where he eventually passed away.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, declared that he was “sickened” by the attack. Violence has no place on our streets, and we are doing everything we can to eradicate it, he declared.
