He Wants To Learn – Former Leeds United Player Thinks Whites Star Is Still Up For Debate

Although he acknowledges that there are parts of his game that are extremely good, Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter has yet to fully win over the coach, according to Jon Newsome.

In his team’s 3-0 victory over Millwall on Sunday at the Den, Rutter netted his second goal for Leeds.

The Frenchman struggled in the Premier League and was used as an example of Victor Orta’s poor hiring practises when he joined Leeds in January of last year for a club record amount.

The attacker has been paying back the faith of his new Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who was eager to give him an opportunity.

The ability of Rutter to mature into the center-forward Leeds believed they were purchasing during the winter transfer window is still up for debate, according to Newsome.

He acknowledged that his appearance has improved this year and that his game has some amazing elements.

The former White emphasised that much more work needs to be done before the Frenchman can be developed as an attacker, though.

Newsome acknowledged that the forward appears to be a valuable team member and that he does have the desire to grow.

The former White responded on BBC Radio Leeds when asked if Rutter is a center-forward: “The jury is still out.

You must give him the benefit of the doubt because he is still learning the ropes of his job.

“It’s not his fault that he has a £35 million price tag hanging over his head, and this league is completely different from anything he has ever played in.

“During the time he has been here, I have been critical of him.

He seemed respectable at Ipswich, and I believe today has been one of his better days.

However, there are other sections of his game where, as an analyst, you would sit down with him tomorrow and tell him this is what you have to get better at and these are things you have to improve at. There are parts of his game that are amazing and sublime, there are areas where he gets it all.

“I am thrilled for him. He wants to learn, he looks contagious, and he is a member of the team. When he scored, everyone crowded around him, jumped on him, and celebrated with him, demonstrating that he is a member of that squad and that they are a really close-knit bunch.

“Today, I think, goes towards helping him succeed,” said the speaker. “Nobody wants to see him fail; everyone wants to see him succeed.”

The eleven-man roster for Leeds’ match against Hull later this week is set to include Rutter, who has started the last four Championship games.
