Leeds United’s “very good” attacker may be in trouble today

Gary Rowett laments Millwall’s “harsh” loss but praises Leeds United’s “very good” attack.
Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter’s goals gave Leeds United their second league victory of the year as they defeated Millwall.

Although Gary Rowett thinks Leeds United’s victory over Millwall was “harsh,” he acknowledges that the visitors are “very good” on the counter-attack. The Whites won 3-0 at the Den on Sunday thanks to a double from Joel Piroe and a late goal from Georginio Rutter, giving them just their second league victory of the year.

In the Championship, Daniel Farke’s team is now ranked 10th. They will play against Hull City in midweek before welcoming Watford back to Elland Road on Saturday. Despite the outcome, Rowett was delighted with his team’s effort and thinks Leeds has a variety of attackers who can ‘damage’ any team in the division.

It felt a little bit harsh, he informed the press. Of course, the final result is 3-0 because you give up three goals while the other team does not. It doesn’t seem to be an accurate representation of the work the players made.

We are aware that the Championship is a difficult league to compete in because of teams like Leeds, who can substitute players like Gnonto, Summerville, Piroe, and Rutter for James, Anthony, and Gelhardt at any time.

They will undoubtedly hurt teams when there is open space on the pitch since it is what they excel at. Looking back on the recent game against Norwich, I can say that it didn’t seem like us and wasn’t a true representation of what the team has been about for the past three or four years in terms of our toughness and ability to make the early going of the game challenging.

“Today, I believe we accomplished that; we confronted them, applied great pressure, and took a chance by playing a little higher. I felt like we controlled the ball well in and around the Leeds half, manoeuvred into some advantageous situations, caused corners, and spent a lot of time in and around the box without really producing any clear-cut chances.

After 15 minutes, Piroe scored after a quick counterattack, although Millwall was upset because referee Chris Kavanagh did not give them a free kick for a foul on Kevin Nisbet in the preceding move. Rowett refused to comment further.

Whether Kavanagh erred or not, he feels that the early goal forced Millwall to chase the ball in the closing minutes and provided Leeds with an opening to score a breakaway goal.

When asked if many teams would be able to counter United’s “attacking threat,” Rowett responded, “Not if you’re down 1-0 and pushing and leaving space. Because you’re in the same division, there are clearly different points in the game where you have to deal with it. Such games must be attempted to win, especially at home.

They’re a terrific team, but we need to be conscious that groups like that—groups like Norwich, Southampton, Leicester, and I could list a few others—have guys who can go out and do harm. Making sure you don’t make mistakes is what you need to do.

“I believe we made a mistake for the first goal, where we should have done a little bit more to maintain the ball and resist the urge to go down. The second goal, I believe we provide pressure, and they are placed in a fantastic spot where James misses his shot and it falls to the lone player nearby, missing our two defenders.

“On the third, we make a bad choice.”

they have the opportunity to transition when they reach the edge of their box. The Championship consists of those game-changing events. You could perhaps lose the game if you don’t handle those situations correctly.
