Former Leeds United ace: have come back to play for leeds

Former Leeds United player: “We Need a Different Plan at Elland Road.”

When playing at Elland Road, Leeds United must have a distinct strategy to dismantle opposing sides, according to Jon Newsome.

Leeds has won two league games so far this year, and both of those wins came away from home against Millwall and Ipswich Town, respectively.

The Whites are still trying to start their season in front of their supporters despite drawing each of their three home games this year.

Since Leeds are skilled at attacking teams on the break and scoring goals, Newsome acknowledged that they are finding it simpler to win games away from home.

He emphasised that opponents playing at home are treating Leeds with greater respect and daring them to be broken down by defending deeply and making it difficult for the Whites’ attackers to find space.

The former Leeds star emphasised that going ahead this season, they must find a method to overcome the obstacle and improve at home.

On BBC Radio Leeds, Newsome stated: “I do agree that at this time, it seems to me that playing away from home is easier for us than playing at home.

“That’s because teams visit Elland Road and treat us with the respect that a football club deserves,” the player said.

“They won’t show up at Elland Road and try to challenge you and play you at your game.

“In some ways, that’s a backhanded praise, but it’s something we need to examine, talk about, and attempt to break them down.

“When we strike them on the break, I think we are a very good side.

“The next challenge is can we do it when teams are seated and telling you to come and tear us down because we aren’t really interested in attempting to score.

“We’ll just defend firmly and make things difficult for you.

Effectively, their goal is to maintain their lead till the final 15 to 20 minutes of the game, at which point they will try to score a goal.

When we are at home, we must have a different strategy.

Before playing Watford at Elland Road the following Saturday, Leeds had another away game against Hull on Wednesday.
