Newcastle United player collapsed within 11 minutes while playing

Within minutes of the match against Sheff United, an injury to Harvey Barnes devastated Newcastle United.
Harvey Barnes’ injury forced Newcastle United to make a substitution with only 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Just a few minutes into their matchup against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Newcastle United suffered a new injury setback.

When Harvey Barnes suffered what appeared to be a muscular issue on minute 11, he was making his second Premier League start for the Magpies. The £38m guy was pushed off in Yorkshire after receiving treatment for a brief period of time.

Barnes, who had been playing wide on the left side of the pitch, was replaced right away by Anthony Gordon as Newcastle took no chances. Barnes shook his head in dismay as he proceeded directly down the tube, pointing to his toe.

Eddie Howe analyses Nick Pope’s performances following England’s rejection

The manager had used the former Leicester City player as a substitute in the Champions League match against AC Milan at the San Siro last week in an effort to lessen the pressure of three games in a week, but Eddie Howe’s injury was a major setback. But after getting off to a slow start against the Blades, he only had four touches before being replaced.

Clinton Morrison, a pundit for BBC Five Live, recognised right away that the blow may be upsetting for the winger. If you only took a knock, you would know and would get back up, but it might be a muscular injury, he explained. Anthony Gordon should go now.

In an interview with Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said: “You feel for Barnes, who would have been desperate to make an impression.”

After Barnes left the game, Gordon did incredible work to keep the ball in play before crossing for Sean Longstaff to score the game’s first goal.
