Sunderland injury report for Pierre Ekwah

A leg issue has recently kept the midfielder out of action.

HIGHLIGHTS
Aji Alese won’t play on Friday because he has a few more weeks of complete training.
Due to illness, Jewison Bennette is a serious question mark for the game.
Pierre Ekwah’s strong start to the season was derailed by a slight injury.
In time for Friday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland has been updated on the condition of midfielder Pierre Ekwah.

What are the most recent Sunderland injury updates?
Aji Alese will likely be sidelined for a little while longer, according manager Tony Mowbray, who was quoted by The Sunderland Echo last week in an article about the most recent injury news: He should arrive in a few weeks, I believe. He is on the grass, but he is not participating in He is working out with physiotherapists and practising kicking and dribbling a couple balls around some cones.

Jewison Bennette has been absent from the club for the past week owing to illness, and because he hadn’t returned to training before the loss to Cardiff City, the winger’s participation in Friday’s game is now very doubtful. Due to a minor hamstring injury, Bradley Dack is also expected to sit out for the Black Cats, but Mowbray said before Cardiff that he may use the midfielder if needed, saying:

Prior to Cardiff City’s loss, he remarked, “I think he probably could play, but we want to give him some time to strengthen it all up.” I don’t want to reach the situation where he can only continue for 60 minutes before being removed.because he has further exacerbated the issue. While we believe we can afford the time to do so, we are taking the time to get him completely. I believe that is the best course of action.

Ekwah is the only other player who might miss Wednesday’s game. He had a dead leg before the win against QPR, which got worse when he was struck in the same place during that game.

The Frenchman hasn’t played in either of the last two Championship games, but he hasn’t had a serious injury, so he might be able to rejoin the team for the forthcoming trip to Hillsborough. The most likely time for a return, though, is on Wednesday, when Mowbray’s team hosts Watford at the Stadium of Light.

What kind of season has Pierre Ekwah had?
Given that the defensive midfielder has been one of the Championship season’s most reliable performers thus far, averaging a 7.27 Sofascore match rating, his availability on Friday night might be a huge advantage for Mowbray.

The 21-year-old has shown his offensive skills this season while playing in a defensive midfield position, contributing with two goals against Southampton in the spectacular 5-0 triumph at the Stadium of Light earlier this month.

It is encouraging that the young player’s injury is not regarded to be significant because after breaking into the first team with the Black Cats last season, it appears that he is set to take off this season.

Ekwah, who has been hailed as “monstrous” by the media, could be a boost if he plays on Friday, although Sunderland may not need to take a chance on him considering that they are playing a team that has had a terrible start to the year.
