Bad Day For West Ham United

Early injury updates for West Ham United’s matchup with Lincoln
Ben Dinnery reports that West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell won’t be available for the League Cup match against Lincoln City.

In his lone appearance this season, the left back sustained a hamstring injury in the Hammers’ Europa League victory over Backa Topola on September 21. The injury was revealed by the injury expert on Premier Injuries on September 25.

On Wednesday, September 27, the Hammers will travel to Sincil Bank to take on the League One Imps in the third round of the League Cup without Cresswell, who is still undergoing a club evaluation.

Blow

Although Lincoln would be anticipated to lose to the Irons early in the campaign, David Moyes will be frustrated to not have the Englishman.

Since Emerson has established himself as the manager’s top choice in this position, Cresswell has failed to make an appearance for the Hammers in the Premier League this year. He was chosen for the Hammers’ first European match but was taken off at the break.

League Cup games, particularly those against teams from lesser divisions, present a chance for periphery players to get some competitive playing time in, but Cresswell won’t get this opportunity.

The Scotsman might use this chance to give a young Hammer player a chance, such Premier League 2 regular Regan Clayton, who made 25 appearances in the league last year and scored two goals and provided three assists.

Moyes might not be in the mood to take a chance, though. This game offered a strong opportunity to rebound after their poor league loss to Liverpool (24 September).

The Hammers squad only has two natural left-backs, so anxious supporters will be watching for news on Cresswell’s potential comeback.

Another West Ham story this weekend involved a teenage player who put on a star-making performance for his loan team.
