“Will probably leave…” Carlton Palmer comments to Leicester City’s challenging transfer predicament
The pundit has provided his perspective and prediction on what will happen in the crucial coming months…
Due to their relegation, Leicester City had huge departures during the summer transfer window, with numerous high-profile players leaving for other clubs.
Despite interest from prominent European teams such as Barcelona, Wilfred Ndidi has remained at the club. His contract, though, is scheduled to expire, generating uncertainty over his future.
Unless he signs a new deal, Leicester City may have to sell Ndidi in the January transfer window to risk losing him for nothing next summer. It’s a difficult choice, but it’s vital to safeguard their financial holdings.
Many high-profile individuals sought the King Power Stadium exit door over the course of what proved a hectic summer transfer window.
It was always going to be this way. The Foxes’ rollercoaster nine-year stint in the first flight ended in disaster when they were relegated, despite having quality and established players like as James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans, and Timothy Castagne among others.
There was little subsequent shock when those players all departed for pastures new.
On the other hand, there was some surprise when some players stayed at the club after the transfer window closed; injuries or not, seeing Ricardo Pereira as a Championship player is a sight to behold, and you wouldn’t have expected Kelechi Iheanacho or Patson Daka to stay.
Having said that, Wilfred Ndidi’s case is truly exceptional.
While he, like many of the Foxes squad, deteriorated significantly after relegation, he’s still a player who has never been short of fans overseas, and that was no different this off-season despite the circumstances.
Enzo Maresca will be relieved to have Ndidi on his team for the time being, but he cannot be that short-sighted.Leicester are about to reach a tipping point in his career, which could compel him to reconsider his opinion.
The holding midfielder is now in the final year of his current contract, which means Leicester can do nothing but play hardball in the contractual talks that will inevitably take place in the near future.
And, with Barcelona the latest heavyweight club to be linked with his signature, analyst Carlton Palmer has predicted what will happen in the coming months. What has Carlton Palmer said about Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi in the wake of Barcelona’s interest?
Palmer said exclusively to Football League World: “Barcelona, along with several other top European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid, are interested.”
All of them are keeping an eye on Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi.”It was believed that the 26-year-old would’ve been sold following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship, but they were asking for too much money.”Ndidi has started all one of Leicester’s eight Championship games this season, and the club now leads the table.”The issue for Leicester is that Ndidi is in his final year of his contract.”
“They don’t know which league they’ll be in, so it’s difficult for them; I’m sure they’d offer him a contract to protect themselves, despite the fact that he’s only 26.”
“However, I believe it will be difficult to persuade him to sign a new contract, given that he could be playing Champions League football at Christmas.”
“So the likelihood in my opinion is that he’ll probably lose in the January transfer window so Leicester can avoid losing him for nothing next summer.”
Should Wilfred Ndidi be sold by Leicester City?
It’s not ideal, but if he refuses to update his terms, it’s the only viable choice.
It’s a difficult decision and, depending on how you look at it, a catch-22 position, because Leicester could legally keep Ndidi for the entire season, but that may come at a cost, and it all depends on whether they get promoted or not.
However, it is too much of a risk considering that Ndidi is a huge financial asset who will return a substantial outlay that might even be used to bolster the Foxes’ promotion campaign further.
Naturally, Maresca and the rest of the East Midlands hierarchy should be battling tooth and nail to persuade him to sign a new contract first, but if that isn’t possible, it’s only natural that they bite the bullet and satisfy Ndidi’s demands after the turn of the year.
