another injury blow : as 2 weeks player have just passed on

Before facing the Buccaneers, the Lions receive an injury update on Sam LaPorta.

The Detroit Lions host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, but they may be without one of their primary playmakers, rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. LaPorta did not practise Thursday ahead of Week 6 and was put to the injury report with a calf ailment, according to Greg Auman.

It’s always troubling when a player arrives on the injury list in the midst of the week with a fresh injury, like LaPorta appears to have. With Amon-Ra St. Brown still questionable for Week 6 after missing last week, the Lions may be without their two best receivers for Jared Goff heading into the Buccaneers game.

LaPorta will be able to return to practise tomorrow and will most likely need to participate in some capacity in order to play this Sunday.

LaPorta, a rookie tight end from Iowa, has caught 25 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns through the first five weeks of the season, quickly becoming one of Jared Goff’s favourite targets. LaPorta was the 34th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draught and has surpassed everyone in his rookie class save Puka Nacua in receiving metrics.

If LaPorta is unable to play, backup tight end Brock Wright will most likely start in his place against the Buccaneers in Week 6. Stay tuned for additional information on Sam LaPorta’s calf injury and his official status as Sunday approaches.
