Clear and shocking: Hurricanes just announced a departure

Following three seasons with the Hurricanes, both of Miami’s starting safeties are moving on to new endeavours in their football careers.

 

Activating security measures According to InsideTheU, Kamren Kinchens and James Williams intend to forgo their final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draught.

In 26 starts over three seasons, Kinchens finished his Miami career with 11 interceptions—two of which were for touchdowns—during his time as an All-American and first-team All-ACC selection in 2022. In addition, the 6-foot, 205-pound player forced two fumbles, recorded 162 tackles, and intercepted 26 passes.

Following the 2022 season, Kinchens had the highest coverage grade of any safety, scoring 90.7, according to Pro Football Focus. Though it decreased in 2023, Kinchens nevertheless recorded five interceptions during the campaign, demonstrating his superior ball-handling abilities as a back seven defender.

Kinchens is ranked as the top safety prospect in the 2024 NFL Draught by Pro Football Focus and CBS Sports.

With a career-high 73 tackles this past fall, Williams has demonstrated at the collegiate level that he is a versatile defender who can cover (88.5 coverage grade in 2022, 83.6 coverage grade in 2023) and has improved his physicality.

Williams was ranked as the No. 14 safety prospect by Pro Football Focus.

Williams was ranked as the top safety prospect in the nation and is regarded as a five-star prospect. Kinchens was also a member of Miami’s 2021 recruiting class. The Hurricanes were chosen over Georgia by the American Heritage product from Plantation, Florida.

Kinchens, a three-star prospect from Miami (Fla.) Northwestern, made the decision to remain at home instead of enrolling at Auburn.
