Goodbye: I am leaving and will be playing my final season elsewhere

QB Tyler Van Dyke is currently on the transfer page.
The veteran quarterback for the Hurricanes will play his final collegiate season somewhere else.

After four years in Coral Gables, the starting quarterback for Miami is going on. It was discovered by InsideTheU and 247Sports that Tyler Van Dyke intends to use his one-year eligibility to access the transfer site.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound player had a roller coaster career with Miami, making his debut in 2021 as a replacement for an injured D’Eriq King. Van Dyke called his shot in his first media appearance and burst into a game in late October, defeating NC State at home and finishing with 325 yards and four touchdowns through the air.

During the year, he threw for 2931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. Following the season, head coach Manny Diaz was sacked and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee took a job as head coach at SMU. His 2022 campaign was a bust, leading to a few benchings and a shoulder injury. It was his first season playing for Mario Cristobal and former offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. With just five interceptions and 10 touchdown passes during the season, Van Dyke failed to qualify the Hurricanes for the postseason despite their meagre five-win record.

Last off-season, Cristobal went out and hired former Houston offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson to help get the most out of Van Dyke. But this fall had more downs than ups as well. An early season offensive eruption against Texas A&M in which Van Dyke threw for 374 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions, had many feeling like the struggles of 2022 were behind him.

With a 11-1 touchdown to interception ratio, the first signs of Van Dyke’s string of struggles came about in a three touchdown loss to Georgia Tech. That began a string of performances which resulted in ten interceptions over a span of four starts.

Despite being benched against Florida State, Van Dyke had to play one more drive because late in the fourth quarter, freshman Emory Williams sustained an injury. He proceeded to start Miami’s season-ending games against Boston College and Louisville.

The Connecticut native completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 7469 passing yards and 54 touchdowns against 23 interceptions in his three seasons as Miami’s quarterback.

With Williams sidelined until the spring at the earliest because of an injury sustained against Florida State, the Hurricanes have two scholarship quarterbacks on the field: redshirt freshman Jacurri Brown and injured Williams.
