Why him : Longhorns just announced a clear and shocking departure

Where will the Longhorns play in the Texas football bowl following the regular season?

No. 7 Black Friday, Nov. 24, marked the end of Texas football’s final Big 12 regular season. The Longhorns defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 57-7 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. With a 50-point victory over Texas Tech during Thanksgiving week, Texas proved to be extremely dominant and ended the regular season with 11 wins (11-1, 8-1 Big 12).

Entering conference championship week, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have secured a spot in the Big 12 Championship and are still very much in the running for the College Football Playoffs. However, the Longhorns still need to defeat the No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 championship game next weekend and receive some assistance in the power five to get in CFP

In the final game of the revenge tour, Texas will play Oklahoma State (9-3, 7-2 Big 12) and longtime head coach Mike Gundy in the Big 12 Championship Game on December 2 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, at 11 a.m. CT.

After the Longhorns defeated Texas Tech in the regular season finale on November 24, here is where they are predicted to finish in the postseason.

According to post-Week 13 predictions, Texas football is expected to win a New Year’s Six Bowl this postseason, at the very least.
Much like they did last week, about half of the major media outlets predict that the Longhorns will participate in the College Football Playoffs. The other half intends for Texas to secure a place in a New Year’s Six Bowl game as an at-large bid.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach projects Texas as the four-seed against the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs in the CFP Semifinal game at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura projects Texas to face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Cotton Bowl.

CBS Sports projects Texas to face the Tulane Green Wave as an at-large bid in the Fiesta Bowl.

And 247Sports projects Texas to face the Mizzou Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.

Because every team in the top eight of the College Football Playoff rankings won during rivalry week, the Longhorns’ bowl projections are essentially the same as they were the previous week. In order for Texas to qualify for the CFP during conference championship week, a few other Power Five teams must assist them.

Specifically, Texas’ hopes of qualifying for the Playoffs depend on the Louisville Cardinals defeating the Florida State Seminoles in the ACC Championship Game on December 2. It goes without saying that Texas must defeat Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game in order for any of the talk about the playoffs to be meaningful.
