Sad News : Miami Hurricanes’ key player suffers career ending injury

University of Miami quarterback Emory Williams, who suffered a serious left arm injury late in the Hurricanes’ defeat to No. 4 Florida State, was transported to a Tallahassee hospital on Saturday night. The team returned to Miami, UM said in a statement on Sunday morning. The statement stated, “Miami quarterback Emory Williams was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after suffering a left arm injury during the game on Saturday.” He returned on a team flight on Saturday evening. “Once we have more details, we will update his status.” Williams is a true freshman who plays right-handed and did not have surgery before leaving Tallahassee. However, CaneSport learned on Sunday from a source that he has a compound fracture and will have surgery on Monday.

With 2:56 remaining, Williams was hurt on a fourth-and-2 play from the UM 20. With his left arm taking the brunt of the hit and his right arm clutching the football, he leaped for the first down and stretched his arms. The quarterback was immediately encircled by players, coaches and medical staff while a paramedic dashed onto the field to wrap the quarterback’s arm in a thick, black protective device. Williams sobbed as he was wheeled towards the tunnel leading to Doak Campbell Stadium, loaded into an ambulance, and taken to the hospital.

After the game, UM coach Mario Cristobal called it a “significant injury,” without going into further detail. In UM’s 27-20 defeat, Williams completed 8 of 23 (34.7%) passes for 175 yards and two touchdown passes to Jacolby George. He had two layoffs. Williams played in his fifth game of the season on Saturday, which means he won’t be able to claim a redshirt for the following season as a sophomore. “Gutsy. Mario Cristobal, the UM coach, described Williams’ performance as “tough.” Was a little anxious at first, but I eventually calmed down. made some bold throws and some courageous runs, especially the one on which he was injured. However, he also had the race in which he was the first to go down, and we finished

“Overall, he made some other important throws and a spectacular throw to Jacolby, though statistically speaking it’s not exactly [great].” He wishes he could have some others back. One, right in the middle [when his pass struck the official].

The injured Williams was replaced by fourth-year junior Tyler Van Dyke, the veteran starting quarterback for UM who was replaced by new starter Williams on Saturday. Van Dyke led the Canes to two first downs before being intercepted with less than a minute remaining to ensure FSU’s victory. Williams was promoted as a result of Van Dyke’s recent on-field difficulties as well as injuries to his right knee, ribs, and back.

Van Dyke and sophomore Jacurri Brown will probably compete to start the final two regular-season games. Brown hasn’t played this season despite appearing in five games and starting two of them the previous year. No matter how much he plays in the remaining games of the season, he will still be considered a redshirt this year. Cristobal remarked of Brown, who had previously had trouble with his accuracy, “He’s doing well.” He was, in my opinion, even scheduled to play regardless of the circumstances. We believed that starting Emory was the right decision for our team. Tyler was [next] in case Emory had been injured, as Tyler had a very successful practise week.

UM gained 335 yards to FSU’s 322. After taking into consideration UM’s three sacks (for 39 yards lost), the Canes’ run defence was stifling, allowing just 57 yards rushing. George had a career-high 153 receiving yards (131 after the catch) and two touchdowns on five receptions, and Cristobal was very complimentary of him.
