Virginia Tech Football: The Hokies’ four potential bowl trips in 2023

After defeating Virginia on November 25 in Charlottesville, the football team from Virginia Tech is now officially 6-6 and bowl eligible. The Hokies have been associated with several bowls against various opponents within the past month or so.

Sunday is when Virginia Tech should know out where they are going, as all conference championship games are decided on Saturday. These are three hypothetical bowl matches that the Hokies and their opponent might play in.

There is a chance that Virginia Tech plays a Big Ten school in the bowl. This season, the Hokies were 0-2 versus Big Ten opponents. On September 9, 24–17, they lost to Purdue at home in a game marked by numerous rain delays. Then, in the first full game with Baylor transfer quarterback Kyron Drones at quarterback, they lost 35–16 at Rutgers a week later.

Rutgers is the Big Ten team most frequently associated with this bowl game; the Hokies would not play this opponent twice this season. Given what transpired in Week 3, it would be an extremely intriguing game, but it is quite unlikely.
