Jimbo Fisher’s dismissal prompts Auburn to select 5-star Phenix City wide receiver Cam Coleman from Texas A&M.

Cam Coleman, a 5-star wide receiver out of Phenix City, has decided to join the Tigers, maybe Hugh Freeze’s biggest recruiting victory to date. Coleman made his announcement on X, the old name for Twitter.

Once Jimbo Fisher, the head coach of Texas A&M, was sacked, he switched his allegiance to Auburn. Eventually, the Aggies got go of wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig, an Auburn player, and hired Mike Elko from Duke.Cam Coleman, a 5-star wide receiver out of Phenix City, has decided to join the Tigers, maybe Hugh Freeze’s biggest recruiting victory to date. Coleman made his announcement on X, the old name for Twitter.

When he unexpectedly committed to Auburn, players, coaches, and commitments reacted with joy and praised Marcus Davis, the wide receivers coach at Auburn.

Coleman stated that he was still committed to the Aggies even after Fisher was sacked, but he was still looking for new players. But predictions for Coleman’s switch to Auburn began to surface shortly after Fisher was ousted.

Auburn kept pushing for Coleman even after he unexpectedly declared his commitment to Texas A&M in July, even though Texas A&M was still seen as the favorite.

Coleman is now the top-ranked player in Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class and a unanimous top-10 recruit in the class. He and Perry Thompson, a five-star wide receiver and fellow product of Alabama, will lead what might be a historic recruiting class for Freeze and this new Auburn coaching staff.

At one of Coleman’s games at Central in Phenix City, Freeze was present. Coleman was also at Auburn’s games against Alabama and Georgia. He saw Walker White, a four-star quarterback commit, and Thompson in the stands during the Iron Bowl. It was the foundation of Auburn’s future offensive, if they all signed.

He was the top recruit in an Aggies class that was ranked 9th in the country before Fisher was fired. Fisher’s Texas A&M teams had always been filled with highly rated recruits, but were not able to translate recruiting success into the championship-contending football team desired with a salary as high as Fisher’s was.

Auburn’s class jumped up six spots from No. 17 to No. 11 in the country with Coleman’s commitment. In losing Coleman, A&M’s class dropped five spots.

With Coleman’s commitment, Auburn has now landed the top-ranked player in Alabama and three of the top five players in the state (Coleman, Thompson and linebacker Demarcus Riddick). All three of them were flips from other SEC programs — Coleman from Texas A&M, Thompson from Alabama and Riddick from Georgia.

If Coleman commits to Auburn, he is the best-rated offensive recruit to visit the campus. Only Ben Obomanu, a wide receiver who committed in 2002, was ever signed by Auburn; two more five-star receivers are committed this recruiting class alone.

Ryan Williams, a Saraland native and five-star wide receiver in the class of 2025, is another target for Auburn. At the moment, he is dedicated to Alabama.

The wide receiver room at Auburn has had a great deal of difficulty in Freeze’s first season. Therefore, adding Coleman and Thompson, two of the top six wide receiver recruits in America according to 247Sports, will instantly boost Auburn’s offense moving ahead.
