Great move: As a massive deal is finally completed today

Trail Blazers Veteran Guard Is Secured By Bold Jazz Trade Proposal
Should the Utah Jazz make a trade to add an experienced player to their backcourt?

The Utah Jazz’s current situation appears less desirable than first thought, which could be paving the way for the franchise to make a mid-season move to upgrade the available talent.

Recent events have linked the Jazz to the possibility of bringing in an accomplished guard to support Jordan Clarkson and Keyonte George. Although both players have performed well thus far in Utah’s season, the group may need more experienced players given that they rank bottom in the league in turnovers allowed.

The Portland Trail Blazers, who have a fantastic fit for the Jazz’s backcourt problems, now enter the picture.

This has the potential to benefit Utah by enhancing leadership and decision-making and providing some support for Portland’s reconstruction:

Malcolm Brogdon, a 2024 second-round pick, is acquired by the Utah Jazz (via ATL)
Kelly Olynyk, Talen Horton-Tucker, and a 2029 first-round selection (via MIN, top-5 protected) are acquired by the Trail Blazers.
The Jazz give up a future protected first and two expiring contracts in exchange for this trade, which adds a highly sought-after veteran to the backcourt. In addition to earning the Trail Blazers some draft money, it successfully provides skill and experience to a backcourt that sorely needs it.

Although the depth of this team may be compromised by losing Olynyk and Horton-Tucker, it is still preferable to losing both players in free agency as early as next summer. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the 32-year-old KO walk off the squad given their schedule, and Talen could easily find a better role or a larger salary elsewhere. This kind of agreement enables Utah to properly capitalize off assets as needed.

In just under 30 minutes per night, Brogdon has averaged 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.6 assists through his first 13 games of the season.

It will be some time before we witness any further developments regarding Brogdon’s predicament, as the NBA trade deadline is still far off. Nonetheless, the Jazz are a compelling option to put together a package given their available assets.
