Worst nightmare have just happened to philadelphia Eagles

Eagles’ discharge Christian Elliss four days subsequent to making his NFL debut

Christian Elliss started his first NFL game on Sunday. He was sent free on Wednesday.

But there’s a good chance we’ll see him again soon.

In order to make room on the roster for former all-pro linebacker Shaq Leonard, who signed a deal with the Eagles on Monday, the Eagles waived Elliss on Wednesday.

Elliss played 44 out of 59 snaps in his first career start for the 49ers, while Zach Cunningham was out for the match. In the Eagles’ 42-19 defeat, he was given credit for six tackles and one tackle for loss.

Following the game, Nick Sirianni stated, “Christian Elliss came in and made some big-time plays.”

Elliss is likely to return to the practice squad, where he will receive all three of his roster upgrades. As a result, Elliss may end up playing, or maybe starting, this weekend in Dallas.

However, this is essentially how the season has gone, with players coming and going each week at linebacker and in the secondary.

With Ellis, Shaun Bradley, Davion Taylor, and Nicholas Morrow vying for a position on the first team with Nakobe Dean starting, the Eagles started training camp with a strong lineup.

On August 6, the Eagles cut Taylor and added Zach Cunningham and Myles Jack. Cunningham finally started with Dean on opening day.

After Dean’s initial foot injury, Morrow took over as the second starter. Cunningham was sidelined on Sunday, so Elliss took his place alongside Morrow. Leonard and Cunningham will also soon become the newest starting duo.

Elliss, 24, first signed with the Eagles in 2021 as an undrafted rookie out of Idaho. Over the course of three seasons, he has appeared in 19 games and been released three times. Prior to this year, he has only played 29 defensive snaps; thus far, in 12 games, he has played 119. Along with two tackles for loss, he totaled 21 tackles.

Thus, Morrow, Leonard, and undrafted rookie Ben VanSumeren—who has never played a defensive snap—are the current 53-man roster’s off-ball linebackers.

Additionally, the Eagles cut wide out Cam Sims off the practice squad and re-signed receiver Greg Ward to the squad. He had only been signed last week.

Since 2017, Ward has spent all or a portion of every season on the Eagles practice squad or active roster. However, he was just removed from the practice squad last week. Over the past seven seasons, the Eagles have released him eleven times. In 2020, Ward had the most receptions for the Eagles—53. Only seven players on the Eagles roster now were present during the 2017 Super Bowl campaign. He is one of them.
