Former Pro Bowler for the Denver Broncos Considered Suicide

Willis McGahee, a former rushing back for the Denver Broncos and Pro Bowler, disclosed that he thought about ending his life on several occasions after retiring. The former running back revealed that he thought about taking his own life since he couldn’t find meaning in it after football. After starting therapy, McGahee is doing well and concentrating on looking after his ten children.

Denver Broncos Willis McGahee’s Story

According to an article done by “The Athletic,” the running back was lost in life as most of his years were spent giving his all to the sport. He had trouble finding a purpose in life after football, which led to him seriously contemplating suicide.

The running back thought he still had what it took to play in the NFL, but organizations were not interested in him because they thought he was “washed up” and “unworthy” of a roster position. As a result, he retired. beyond years of retirement, reality struck in for McGahee, and he began to question whether he wanted to continue living beyond football. He disclosed that he considered ending his life on a few occasions, but happily he refrained from doing so.

NFL Disability Benefits
McGahee disclosed that he applied for benefits via the NFL Disability Plan. Players must submit an application, furnish the necessary paperwork, and show up for at least one medial examination in order to be eligible for the rewards. The running back reapplied after being refused T&P benefits, even though he had already received some of the payments. Ever since, he has not been granted these benefits annually, despite the fact that he claims to have submitted all necessary supporting documentation.

The athletes who are genuinely hurt and going through difficult times in life do not gain anything from it. We’re not being cared for by them. It’s a fraud. I’m over it. Someone needs to take the initiative and take action.

Although McGahee is now, happily, on the mend, he brings up a serious concern regarding the NFL Disability Plan. After hearing the running back’s experience, maybe the NFL will adjust and give players’ mental health more consideration.
