good news : oklahoma sooners have just received a massive return

Oklahoma defensive lineman Da’Jon Terry plans to return to Norman for his fifth year of college football in 2024, he announced Thursday night via social media.

Keeping Terry in the fold is a big win for OU on the doorstep of its SEC entry, as three other contributors on the defensive interior — Isaiah Coe, Jordan Kelley and Jonah Laulu — don’t have eligibility remaining for next season.

The Sooners’ largest defensive lineman at 6-foot-3 and 321 pounds, Terry is exactly the type of player they’ll need more of in the trenches to thrive in the most physical conference in college football.

A former three-star recruit in the class of 2019, Terry played two seasons each at Kansas and Tennessee before transferring to OU in 2023.

The Meridian, Mississippi native recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks this season while playing the third most snaps among Sooners defensive tackles, according to Pro Football Focus.

With Terry’s plans for 2024 now settled, OU will also hope for the retention of Jacob Lacey, the former Notre Dame transfer who started 12 of 13 games at defensive tackle this season. Lacey hasn’t declared if he intends to return for a fifth season.

If Lacey comes back, he and Terry, along with sophomore Gracen Halton, would be the veteran leaders of an OU defensive tackles room that has an exciting influx of talent on the way.

Five-star commit David Stone and four-star commit Jayden Jackson of IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida) will sign with Oklahoma on Dec. 20 and come to campus in January as early enrollees, looking to contribute right away.

OU could also look to add depth to the position via the transfer portal as it gears up for another level of trench warfare in its new conference home.
