Sad News:Chiefs star suffering a career ending injury

KC Chiefs lose Donovan Smith to injury against the Raiders

The Chiefs have put Wanya Morris into the game at left tackle.

Donovan Smith is back in with the Chiefs offense so clearly the injury was a short-term issue. More details to come post-game.

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Week 12 already down a few important offensive contributors, and they lost another starter early in the second half against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon when left tackle Donovan Smith went down with an injury.

The Chiefs have installed rookie Wanya Morris at left tackle in Smith’s place.

Back in early May, Smith was a one-year signing for the Chiefs, who had not had a first-day tackle after the draft. The Chiefs chose to move on from both Andrew Wylie (who went for the Washington Commanders in free agency) and Orlando Brown Jr. (who left for the Cincinnati Bengals). Smith partnered with fellow free agent Jawaan Taylor to give the Chiefs two new starting offensive linemen.

Smith has started all ten of the Chiefs’ regular season games so far this year, so until he returns, his loss will have a big immediate impact. The Chiefs will be able to monitor Morris’ development in real time, which is fantastic news considering he was a promising third-round rookie out of Oklahoma.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, Smith was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round. After making 124 starts for the Bucs over eight seasons, this is his first season on a different team.
