NFL Rumors: Frank Clark signed a contract with the Seahawks in October, but was released by the team.The Seattle Seahawks released veteran defensive end Frank Clark on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Clark signed with the Seahawks in October after getting released by the Denver Broncos, but he was a healthy scratch in three of the past five games.
In eight games this season split between the Broncos and Seahawks, the three-time Pro Bowler has eight tackles and no sacks.
After starring collegiately at Michigan, Clark was selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft.
Clark spent his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks and got traded to the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2019 season.
In four seasons with the Chiefs, Clark was a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion. While he had 23.5 sacks in 58 regular-season games for the Chiefs, he truly shined in the playoffs with 10.5 sacks in 12 contests.
Kansas City released the 30-year-old Clark back in March, and while he signed with Denver during the offseason, he failed to establish himself in the Broncos’ pass-rushing rotation and had the same issues in Seattle.
Overall, Clark has appeared in 128 regular-season games in nine NFL seasons, recording 58.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Clark’s production has waned in recent years, as he hasn’t had double-digit sacks since he had a career-high 13 in 2018, and he hasn’t even reached the eight-sack mark since 2019.
Given the success he enjoyed with the Chiefs, Kansas City could conceivably be an option for Clark now that he’s a free agent again.
As for the Seahawks, they will move forward with Boye Mafe, Jarran Reed, Dre’Mont Jones and Darrell Taylor as their top pass-rushers.
