JOYFUL RETURN: Alabama are bringing him back to us

Report: Malachi Moore to Return to Alabama for Fifth Season
The defensive back and 2023 team captain still has unfinished business with the Crimson Tide.

The Alabama defensive backfield is getting a major boost with the return of one its most experienced players.

Malachi Moore will come back for a fifth season with the Crimson Tide according to a report by ESPN’s Chris Low.

The defensive back has been a four-year contributor for Alabama and was elected as one of three permanent team captains for the 2023 season. In his senior campaign, Moore finished with a career high 51 tackles and also added an interception even while missing the Arkansas game with an ankle injury.

“Malachi’s always been a guy that we have a lot of confidence in,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said about Moore before Senior Day back in November. “We always had a lot of trust that he’s a smart player, can play multiple positions. Every time that he’s had to play, he’s played extremely well. And last year, he played mostly in dime when we played dime. This year, he’s playing all the time, safety and Star.

“But I’ve never ever considered Malachi, in his entire career since he’s been here as a freshman, as not being a starter and a very good one that we could trust and rely on to go out and do a really good job for us. And he’s never disappointed us.”

As a freshman in 2020, Moore started 11 games and had three interceptions and a fumble recovery for a touchdown against Tennessee. He was a consistent contributor his next two seasons, but didn’t always start. The ankle injury limited him some this past season, but Moore’s versatility in the secondary allowed him to move into other positions when some of his teammates were out with injuries.

Moore is one of the few players remaining on the roster who was part of Alabama’s last national championship team in 2020.
