Last week, Jay Higgins and Luke Lachey confirmed their comeback for the 2024 season. Jermari Harris joined them on Wednesday, as reported on social media.

Harris (6-1, 190) started all 12 of his games this season. He had 42.0 total tackles (31 solo, 1.0 for loss), an interception, and a team-leading eight pass breakups. He was named the program’s Comeback Player of the Year.

An injury sidelined the Chicago native for the whole ’22 season. He started six of the previous year’s 13 games.

Higgins received All-American honors in ’23 after tying the program record with 171 tackles. Lachey was chosen honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2022 and caught ten receptions in three games this season before sustaining a season-ending injury.

Harris and Higgins were part of the 2019 recruiting class. They’re taking advantage of the sixth year of eligibility provided by the COVID-19 epidemic. Lachey arrived at Iowa in 1920.

The Hawkeyes are awaiting choices from additional student-athletes regarding next season. Cooper DeJean, Sebastian Castro, and Quinn Schulte are among the defensive backs making decisions, as are linebackers Nick Jackson and Kyler Fisher. DeJean is expected to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

Last month, offensive lineman Nick DeJong revealed that he will return in ’24 for his sixth season. This autumn, he garnered third-team all-conference honors.
