Alex Collins, a former Baltimore Ravens running back, has died at age 28.

“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins,” the Ravens stated on Twitter. “He was a really wonderful guy who carried a distinct excitement and enthusiasm wherever he went, always smiling and greeting everyone. May Alex be remembered for the light and love he infused into so many people’s lives.”

Collins was riding his motorbike when he collided with another car on Sunday night near Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, according to a news release from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced deceased at the spot.

Collins played two seasons with Baltimore, in 2017 and 2018. The five-year veteran rushed for 1,384 yards and 13 touchdowns. Collins also played three seasons for the Seattle Seahawks (2016, 2020, and 2021).

In the 2016 NFL Draft, Seattle selected Collins in the fifth round. He was a college athlete at Arkansas.

“Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh stated. “I’ll always remember him as a fantastic teammate with a positive attitude that influenced everyone he met. He was also a savvy player who ran with unwavering commitment, and he contributed significantly to our success while in Baltimore. We offer our sincere sympathies and support to Alex’s family. May he rest in God’s eternal peace.”
