Clear and shocking: Alabama officially declared the return of the QB

Jalen Milroe says he’s returning to Alabama for the 2024 season and will skip the NFL draft.

Jalen Milroe is returning to Alabama next season.

During an appearance on Thursday’s The Next Round, the quarterback stated that he will return for his redshirt junior season.

Milroe was not widely regarded as a 2024 NFL draft candidate. Many draft gurus did not include him in their rankings because they assumed Milroe would return in the offseason.

Milroe’s 2023 season was similar to Alabama’s, beginning slowly but eventually improving during the season. He threw two interceptions in the Crimson Tide’s defeat to Texas, which resulted in a short benching before resuming his starting role for the Sept. 24 win against Ole Miss.

Milroe’s triumph helped secure his starting spot for the remainder of the season, as he improved week after week. He ended with 2,718 throwing yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions, as well as 468 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.

Alabama won their remaining ten games with Milroe at the helm, advancing to the College Football Playoff as the fourth seed. The winning run was culminated by a 27-24 victory over Georgia, in which Milroe threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns.

Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, and Bryce Young are the last three major starting quarterbacks to be selected in the first round for Alabama. Milroe is unlikely to follow in those footsteps, but he might earn a spot on Day 2 in 2025 if he returns with a successful junior campaign.
