Tar Heels Successfully Completed a Deal Just Now

Former Tar Heel Justin Jackson has signed a 10-day contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Texas native will temporarily relocate north.

Former Carolina player Justin Jackson has spent the previous four years hopping between the G-League and the Dallas Mavericks, and it appears he may be on the road once more. Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier yesterday that the Minnesota Timberwolves had signed Jackson to a 10-day deal, providing depth to their roster following the All-Star break.

For those who haven’t been following Jackson’s NBA career, he began with the Sacramento Kings and later moved on to the Dallas Mavericks. From then, he was moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics, the Phoenix Suns, and back to the Celtics before returning to the Mavericks. Before being traded to the Timberwolves, Jackson played for the Mavericks’ G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends. He was averaging 19.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 41.2% from three.

Given that Jackson’s contract is just for two weeks, it’s unclear what the Timberwolves have in mind for him. While I am not the ideal person to speak with about Minnesota, I believe they are simply testing out Jackson to add some firepower to their offence. His perimeter shooting in the G-League has clearly been outstanding, but the two major challenges he’s faced are that it hasn’t transferred to the NBA court yet, and his defence leaves a lot to be desired. It’ll be intriguing to watch how the Timberwolves evaluate him, and more importantly, how things progress once the 10-day contract expires.
