Good News: Alabama have given a conclusion about the new eight-years $93.6 million contract

Alabama gives Saban a new 8-year, $93.6 million contract.

Alabama coach Nick Saban is set to get a new eight-year contract for at least $93.6 million, surpassing the previous megadeal of Southeastern Conference rival Kirby Smart.

On Tuesday, the University of Alabama trustees compensation committee granted a one-year extension for Saban, who has guided the Crimson Tide to six national championships, until February 28, 2030. Saban’s contract averages $11.7 million per year, more than Smart’s $11.25 million salary at defending national champion Georgia.

The news comes a month after Smart signed a 10-year pact worth more than $110 million. The Bulldogs defeated Alabama in the national championship game in January.

The two join Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Louisiana State’s Brian Kelly, Michigan State’s Mel Tucker, and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher among college football coaches earning at least $9 million in 2022.

Saban’s contract includes a salary and talent fee of $9.9 million this year, with $400,000 in yearly hikes. Saban is eligible for a $800,000 completion bonus at the end of February for the following four years, as well as other prizes.

“(Wife) Terry and I are very appreciative of the unmatched commitment the university has shown to this football programme and our family over the last 15-plus years,” Saban stated in an e-mail. “This is our home, and we look forward to finishing our career at Alabama.”

His deal guarantees that his salary will stay at or near the top of the list among college football coaches.

Saban would benefit if his contract is less than the average total income of the three best paid Southeastern Conference coaches, or the average of the top five paid college football coaches. He would get the highest of the two averages.

Saban agreed to a three-year contract in June 2021 worth $84.8 million over eight years.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne has been given a three-year extension through June 30, 2029, with a 5% increase. He will earn $1.49 million this year, with hikes bringing his compensation to $1.91 million in 2028-29.

Byrne also hired a coach who is pursuing his ninth national championship, including one at LSU.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have the best football coach in the nation and one of the greatest coaches of all time, regardless of sport, here at Alabama in coach Saban,” Byrne said in a statement. “Not only have his teams performed admirably on the field, but they have also excelled in the classroom and community.

“Beyond that, the impact he and Ms. Terry have had on The University, Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama cannot be overlooked.”
