SAD NEWSTwo more prominent Alabama football players have just left.

Two more prominent Alabama football players may be departing the Crimson Tide.

Alabama left lineman Kadyn Proctor wants to transfer after starting as a rookie, and All-America safety Caleb Downs may follow him. On Wednesday, Proctor declared his plans on social media. Downs’ ambitions to enter the portal were disclosed on social media by Deuce Recruiting, where his father Gary, a former NFL running back, serves as national recruiting director. Gary Downs did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press.

If Downs and Proctor decide not to return to the Crimson Tide, it will be the largest blow to incoming coach Kalen DeBoer. According to 247Sports’ aggregate rankings, they are the top two players who have entered the transfer portal, with already-departed receiver Isaiah Bond coming in fourth.

Downs became the first Alabama freshman since at least 1970 to lead the team in tackles. After recording 107 tackles, he was named second-team All-America and Southeastern Conference newcomer of the year by The Associated Press.

Proctor started every game at left tackle for Alabama. They were two of Alabama’s best prospects in the 2023 class, with Downs ranked sixth in the 247Sports composite and Proctor ninth.

Downs was the SEC’s fourth highest tackler. He also caused a fumble, recovered it, and had two interceptions. Downs made a touchdown on one of his four punt returns.

Travaris Robinson, the former Alabama secondary coach, has joined Georgia as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Many Alabama players have already

Bond left for Texas, and starting centre Seth McLaughlin went to Ohio State. Several athletes attended Florida State, including No. 2 rusher Roydell Williams, wide receiver Malik Benson, and offensive tackle Terrence Ferguson.

Among those who have entered the gateway are cornerbacks Dezz Ricks and Antonio Kite. Auburn announced on Wednesday that Kite has signed to play for the Tigers.

Kite got little involvement in two seasons and was redshirted in 2022.
