Clear and shocking: He Won’t Play again, He is Leaving the team due to his condition

Auburn needs a transfer to step up with Jaylin Williams’ injury.

With Jaylin Williams injured, who will stand up for Auburn?

Against the Kentucky Wildcats, star forward Jaylin Williams went down for the Auburn Tigers with a knee injury.

At first, this knee injury looked more serious than it ended up being as it won’t require surgery, but Williams will miss some time. Auburn will need to finish the season strong in SEC play to secure a double bye in the SEC Tournament and a good seed in the NCAA Tournament. This means while Williams rehabs and gets ready for the postseason, or whenever he is ready to return, someone needs to step up.

The most likely candidate to be the “someone” is division two transfer Chaney Johnson. The 6’7 G/F combo plays 14.7 minutes per game and is averaging 3.8 points per game. With Williams out of the lineup, we will see a lot more minutes for Johnson, which will hopefully give him some confidence. Johnson had a really good game against the Florida Gators, scoring nine points in 17 minutes while going 3-4 from the field.

When Johnson chose to move to Auburn, Coach Pearl stated, “Chaney’s journey is the perfect example of the great American dream.” He graduates from Thompson High School, attends UAH to play under John Shulman, grows four inches, leads his team to a conference title, is named player of the year three times, and is now eligible to play in the SEC at Auburn. Chaney’s hard work, determination, length, and athleticism have helped him become into a formidable player. He will have the potential to immediately affect our team. Auburn Basketball has just become better.

One player you don’t expect always plays well in March, and perhaps that could be Johnson.
