NFL Rumors: Raheem Mostert, Dolphins Agree on New 2-Year Contract Worth Up to $9 Million

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler, Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert has agreed to a two-year contract worth up to $9.075 million, which will keep him in Miami until the 2025 season.

Mostert’s previous contract, which offered a basic salary of $2.35 million, was slated to expire after the 2024 season.

Mostert is entering his third season with the Dolphins. In 2023, the nine-year veteran earned his first Pro Bowl selection while leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 18.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Mostert’s reworked contract guarantees him $3.71 million over two years.

Although Mostert will be 32 in April, making him one of the NFL’s oldest running backs, he had a career-high 1,012 yards during his age-31 season with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins were one of six NFL teams to total more than 2,300 running yards in 2023, thanks in large part to Mostert’s contributions.

The Dolphins are hoping to make a deeper run in 2024, after their last postseason trip ended with a Wild Card loss for the second straight season.

As long as he is healthy, Mostert will undoubtedly play an important role in that effort. Although the seasoned running back made 29 starts for the Dolphins over two seasons, he was troubled by ailments for five full seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2021.

The Dolphins’ front office will now need to consider other potential extensions, including one for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Like Mostert, Tagovailoa earned his first Pro Bowl nomination in 2023 while leading the NFL with 4,624 receiving yards. His contract, which guarantees him $23.1 million for the 2024 season, is currently set to expire next spring.

In addition to the Dolphins freeing up $18.5 million with their expected post-June 1 cut of cornerback Xavien Howard, per NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, Mostert’s projected cap hit of $3.36 million will now decrease in 2024, Jackson reported. That should give the Dolphins more flexibility to work on Tagovailoa’s next deal.
