SAD NEWS: The most seasoned player on the Auburn Tigers has just announced his departure with…

Former 5-star guard recruit Aden Holloway has joined with Syracuse Basketball via the transfer portal.
Aden Holloway, an Auburn freshman point guard who was offered a scholarship by Syracuse Basketball while still in high school, has apparently enrolled on the transfer portal, according to multiple media sites.

On3’s top national analyst/scout, Jamie Shaw, announced on Tuesday that the 6-foot-1, 178-pound Holloway had arrived at the gate.

The current transfer-portal cycle began on Monday, March 18, and will last for 45 days. At least five Orange players from 2023-24 have utilized the site.

In contrast, it appears that the ‘Cuse has received at least one commitment through the portal thus far, and in recent weeks, reports and national commentators have indicated that Syracuse basketball coaches are examining a number of other collegiate prospects listed in the portal.

I’m not saying Orange coaches won’t consider Holloway, but according to the article, the ‘Cuse will most likely need to sign a point guard this offseason in order to have a player before the 2024-25 season starts.

Aden Holloway, a former Syracuse basketball point guard recruit with a five-star rating, has accessed the transfer portal.
Auburn, a Southeastern Conference team, finished the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 27-8. The Tigers triumphed in the SEC Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament this spring, Auburn, ranked fourth, lost in the round of 64 against Yale, rated thirteenth.

According to ESPN, Holloway played in all 35 games during his debut season with the Tigers. In 20.2 minutes a game, he scored 7.3 points, 2.7 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and shot 31.8 percent from the field, 30.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Recruiting agencies claim that the Orange coaching staff extended a scholarship offer to the Charlotte, North Carolina native in the summer of 2019. Holloway should have three years of eligibility remaining after picking a new college.

Holloway competed for Covenant Day School in Matthews, North Carolina, La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana, and Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, California.

J.J. Starling, a Central New York native and sophomore guard for Syracuse basketball, was a McDonald’s All-American at La Lumiere.

Holloway, a McDonald’s All-American, excelled in his final year in prep school. According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he was regarded as a five-star prospect for the 2023 recruiting cycle, ranking No. 18 overall, No. 4 at point guard, and No. 2 in California.

Orange (2023): Sophomore Benny Williams, who was ejected from the program in early February, junior big Maliq Brown, sophomore guard/wing Quadir Copeland, sophomore center Peter Carey, and junior forward Justin Taylor are among the 24 players who have visited the website thus far.

Syracuse basketball coaches, who have Copeland and Taylor in the lineup with sophomore Judah Mintz unlikely to return in 2024-2025, will most likely look to the portal this offseason for a point guard.

The Orange will get four-star transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr., a senior center from Colorado who committed to Syracuse last week, five-star power forward Donnie Freeman from Washington, D.C., and four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore from New York City, who will join in 2024.
