Virginia Tech football unexpectedly falls in national CFB writers’ post-spring Top 25.
Brad Crawford of 247Sports announced his post-spring Top 25 rankings, which saw Virginia Tech slide one spot.

This past weekend marked the end of collegiate football teams’ spring practices, and the long wait until mid-summer, when Virginia Tech’s fall camp begins. The Hokies Spring Game, which took place on April 13, was a success for almost everyone, and several players used it to press their case for playing time in 2024.

Now that the spring practice season is almost over, Brad Crawford of 247Sports has issued his revised Top 25 rankings for the fall, and while Virginia Tech remains rated, they have slipped in his most recent edition.

Virginia Tech dips one position in Brad Crawford’s Top 25 poll.
Virginia Tech, which was ranked No. 23 in February, slid one spot to No. 24 in his most recent survey. It’s a little odd to see them fall rather than hold still or creep upward. Crawford also took into account the transfer portal, which has one week till April 30, as well as roster changes that have occurred and will occur in the near future.

Despite the fact that there is still a week left in the spring transfer portal, Virginia Tech has seen few players enter. In the Hokies Spring Game, quarterback Kyron Drones appeared to be picking up where he left off in the 2023 season, following an excellent performance in the Military Bowl victory over Tulane. His ability to move around in the pocket, put his head down, and run with it, along with his strong arm, will make him difficult to defend against an offense that has a high retention rate.
The Hokies looked well defensively, albeit for a Spring Game, but they, like the offense, have experienced some retention. They’ve also added transfer portal players like Aeneas Peebles from Duke and Kelvin Gilliam from Oklahoma to the offensive line, as well as linebacker Sam Brumfield from Middle Tennessee State.
