worst nightmare has just happened to carlton

Jacob Weitering praised Carlton’s two most inexperienced defenders.
“THERE’S probably a few things to go over.”
Following Carlton’s victory over GWS, much attention has focused on the performances of those players who stepped up when the game was genuinely on the line.

It’s difficult to dismiss Patrick Cripps’ 39 disposals or Sam Walsh’s 17 scoring opportunities. However, it was a true team effort that turned things around and propelled the Blues to victory.

That is especially true when you consider what the Blues were dealing with before to the game. While the talk was about who wouldn’t be out there for Carlton, Michael Voss was stoic before the game, insisting that the only thing the squad needed to worry about was who would wear the Navy Blue jumper.

For Jacob Weitering, the weekend’s victory exemplified the message Voss has been emphasizing since day one.

“We discussed squad mentality and getting the next guy in,” Weitering told SEN’s Whateley.

“I was obviously out for the first two games, and I thought the defense held up quite well as a team. As a defensive unit, we’re not concerned.

“Yes, we’re probably low on numbers at the moment, but I know the boys are doing their absolute best and most to get back as soon as possible.”

Weitering cited two Blues – the two least-experienced players in Carlton’s back six – as an example of why the Blues were able to cross the line.

Lachie Cowan was brought in for the first time this year, playing only his eighth game of football, coming into a backline that lost.

Then, with Zac Williams replaced at halftime, Jordan Boyd – perhaps Carlton’s most improved player in season 2024 – took on Toby Greene in Boyd’s 22nd game of football.

“You have to give a lot of respect to Lachie Cowan and Lewis Young for how they came in. Lachie is a young man, and I think he performed admirably.

“I’d like to celebrate Jordan Boyd as well. Going over to Toby Greene, who is a terrific player, and nullifying him, doing his absolute best, and getting on the end of a few was also beneficial.

“To adjust on game day – I was laboring, Zac Williams is subbed off.
